The word in this verse, “finished,” is actually from the Greek word, “tetelestai,” which is the same word that means “paid in full.” Often, it was used in an accounting term, which indicates a debt was paid. The uniqueness about the way it was written is that the tense of the word indicates both a point in time it was complete and that it would also continue to be complete or finished. And this is the essence of what Christ came to do. He came to “finish” God’s work of salvation in us. He came to “pay it in full,” the entire penalty, or debt, for our sins. He’s at work in our world still today in powerful ways. The ESV Study Bible comments, “It is finished proclaims that all the work the Father had sent him to accomplish (cf. 4:34; 9:4) was now completed, particularly his work of bearing the penalty for sins. This means there was no more penalty left to be paid for sins, for all Jesus’ suffering was ‘finished’ (see Heb. 1:3; 9:11-12, 25-28).” 5 Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Bakoma Hanricharms 4 Thoughts 206 Thinkings 0 Vibrations 1k TRP View Profile Bakoma Hanricharms Explainer 2020-03-20T20:42:54+02:00Dropped a think on March 20, 2020 at 8:42 pm Jesus said it is finished because that was the last end and the fulfilment of the scripture 3 Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Anonymous 2020-02-08T16:56:27+02:00Dropped a think on February 8, 2020 at 4:56 pm He said it is finished because he has completed his mission on Earth 1 Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Learn more | Ad by Memoir AYUK MIKE tataw 0 Thoughts 223 Thinkings 0 Vibrations 645 TRP View Profile AYUK MIKE tataw Teacher 2020-05-20T14:40:56+02:00Dropped a think on May 20, 2020 at 2:40 pm Jesus said it is finish on the cross, it mean he has finished his work on earth.. 0 Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp You must login to add an answer.Continue with FacebookContinue with GoogleContinue with Twitteror use Username or email* Password* Remember Me!
